The modern land battlespace is full of sound; from personnel, vehicles, aircraft and from weapons discharge. Large parts of this acoustic environment contain tactically important information.
Land Warrior Acoustic Systems Pty Ltd (LWAS Pty) has been established to provide solutions to the problem of acquiring, processing, displaying and ultimately exploiting these acoustic signatures for situational awareness and to guide tactical responses. Land Warfare Acoustic Systems Inc (LWAS Inc) has been established in the US to provide a vehicle through which to undertake these activities in the USA.

LWAS can provide provide fixed and mobile capabilities, including both stand alone systems, and those designed specifically as wearable systems to interface to a soldier combat system.
The LWAS acoustic operational solutions provide the enhancements for land forces in two areas, namely:

The ability to quiten own vehicles and supporting machinery to improve stealthiness (reduce velnerability), improve crew operating conditions (improve efficiency), and imrpove acoustic detection capabilites (improve effectiveness). |

LWAS Pty and LWAS Inc are both members of the PNV Group of companies, all of which have extensive experience within the fields of noise and vibration, and in the application of these principles for defence applications. LWAS is therefore able to utilize experience and expetise developed in the maritime field, where the use of acoustics is more extensive and established.
